Dental Vision and Hearing Coverage

Published by Mike Lovell on

Medicare does NOT cover routine dental, vision, or hearing

Most people are surprised to learn that Original Medicare doesn’t automatically include dental, vision, and hearing coverage.

But it’s true.

So you need to ask yourself if you NEED coverage for one or all of those things. Because some people probably don’t.

But most people do.

So what should you do if you’re in the majority of people that need to add extra coverage for dental, vision, and hearing?

All in one Dental, Vision, and Hearing plans

You have 2 main options for getting coverage.  You can get standalone dental coverage.  But then if you want vision coverage you need to add that on a standalone basis too.  Same thing for hearing coverage.  Which potentially leaves you with 3 additional plans to cover dental, vision and hearing.

Or…

You can add an all in one dental, vision, and hearing plan.

The pros of doing it this way are that you can add just 1 plan that includes coverage for all 3 of these areas.  So you pay just 1 premium and have just 1 ID card.  That makes your life a whole lot simpler.

Acceptance is guaranteed

Many people think they need to add these plans right when they start Medicare.  It is a good time to add it but if you missed that window then you won’t be penalized.

You are guaranteed to be approved for coverage for these dental, vision, and hearing plans.

Which Dental, Vision, and Hearing plan do I recommend?

I’ve spent years as an independent broker so I can find the best plans available so you don’t have to spend the time researching insurance plans.

The best value for an all in one dental, vision, and hearing plan I’ve found is Manhattan Life.  Here’s a few reasons why:

  • Benefits increase each year for the 1st 3 years
  • Highest coverage available for major services like dentures, crowns, and root canals
  • No network restrictions so you can use any provider you want
  • Combined benefit you can use however you want
    • You can use 100% of the benefit towards hearing aids or split it between any of the 3 buckets however you need to use it that year
